3D Illustrations

Using Autodesk Maya, it is possible to create archaeological illustrations of objects in 3D - either by modeling existing illustrations, or modeling directly from the objects themselves. Though aesthetically pleasing, this type of illustration should be approached with some caution. When choosing the approaches that are best for your project, you should always consider the goals of your research and whether they are actually best served by 3D.

Why are the models blue?

The models in this section are all produced from illustrations, which means a certain amount of guesswork is involved in their form and decoration. To prevent these vessels from being misidentified as 100% accurate, we've left them blue as a visual signal that they are not exact copies.
