Services and Costs
All projects are different and have different needs. This makes pricing a specific visual a little complex. Costs are calculated by the time it takes to complete them, including research (if necessary), production, and editing. As a general rule of thumb, expect to pay around $25-$30/hr for a visualization project.
The prices below are not exact, but give a good general idea of the rates I charge.
Artifact Illustration
Small Artefact Illustration (Simple)
A simple, single material object illustrated from photo or from life with 2-5 views.
~$150
Artefact Illustration (Complex)
A large, materially complex, or highly detailed artefact
~$300-$450
Add Assembledge
Create an assemblage illustration from exiting illustrations.
+$75
Add Hands
Include the outline of a hand to your artifact illustration to invoke a more intuitive, embodied sense of scale. Use the standard hand outline (my hand) or send along a photo to include a bespoke hand outline.
+$50/my hand
+$75/bespoke hand
Add Colour
Add color to your illustrations, either as an added view within an illustration, or as a separate image in color.
+$75
Add Additional View
Want to include archeological markings as a view? Or a view focused on areas of rust or wear? No problem!
+$75
Rush Job
If you need a visualization within the week/over the weekend/during Christmas Break, I charge overtime.

Sites and Landscapes
Orthographic Illustration
A good orthogonal drawing is best made in person with the aid of a good central line, ruler, and plumb bob. However, this is not always possible. Though a good-quality overhead photograph can be used, the farther from the center, the more distortion will appear. A good quality 3D model or sent of photos are preferable to maintain accuracy.
~$150-450 (depending on size)
Section Illustration
Producing a section drawing is best done in person, but can be accomplished with a good quality, face-on photograph or a 3D photogrammetric model. It can also be produced to highlight certain features as necessary.
~$150
Maps
I love love LOVE making maps in QGIS. The technology is so flexible that there is very little that it cannot do: from routes, to elevations, to superimposing historic photos. It all depends on what you need.
~$150-$300
Landscape Models
If I can find remote sensing, satellite, or lidar data, I can produce a landscape model - either including or excluding modern structures. Producing it in color is still in process, however.
~$300
Models
Simple Model from Illustration
A simple, formic representation of an object from an illustration or from life. Though the material can be easily adjusted, the underlying mesh will remain simple and undecorated, as in these food vessels models.
~$150
Complex Model
A model that requires a high level of sculpting, require the application of complex texture, or includes complex formic elements will take longer to produce than a simpler formic model and will therefore cost more.
~$300-$450
Scene
This is one of the hardest to quote, as the level of complexity in the scene will determine the time it takes to produce it. The scene pictured is fairly simple, including a fairly unaltered "base" human model, simple formic vessels, and a simple liquid. The cost will depend on two factors: the number of models, and the level of complexity of those models.
~$300-$1,000
Reconstructions
The cost of a reconstruction will depend on the level of complexity, the level of reconstruction information provided by the researcher (you), the integration of other software, and the number of objects required by the reconstruction. Also, expect to discuss how you would like to represent uncertainty in a 3D model.
~$300-$1,000

$150 research cost
+$150/1,000 words
Blogpost with Illustrations
If you want me to produce new illustrations for your article, I will charge my standard illustration rate. However, if you see something on the website that you would like to use, lower rates apply.
+$150/new illustration
+$30/existing illustration
Blogpost Add-On for Visualization
Want to show off your visualization with a blog post? I'm happy to write up my work to accompany the images produced for your project.

Photographs
Artifact Photography
Give me a list of catalogue numbers or a box of loose finds and I will happily spend the day photographing. I can bring my own equipment or use equipment provided. All objects will be photographed to archeological standards and images will be loaded day-of onto a USB or memory card. Further photo editing can be provided at additional cost.
$160/day + travel expenses
Photo Editing
Need an image cleaned up for publication? No problem. Send along your images and I can clean them up and arrange them as needed.

or
$150/day for batches
Onsite Illustrator
Have pen, will travel! I come equipped with my own tools and can shift between different roles on projects as needed. I dig, I draw, I can even cook.
$150/day onsite
+ Travel Expenses
+ $150/day image processing/editing/modellng costs (typically equal to the time onsite)
